Stag Do in Cyprus: Limassol, Ayia Napa or Paphos?

Almost every stag do enquiry we get starts with the same question, phrased slightly differently: where should we actually base ourselves? It matters more than most groups expect. Cyprus is small, but the four places you'd consider are genuinely different weekends, and picking the wrong one is the difference between a trip that suits your group and one that merely happens near them.

Here's the honest version. We plan weekends in all four, so this isn't a case of talking up the one we happen to sell.

Limassol is where we base most weekends, and it isn't a close call. It's the most cosmopolitan city on the island — a working marina rather than a decorative one, the best restaurants in Cyprus, five-star hotels, and a seafront that people live on all year rather than visit for one season. The practical advantage is that everything sits close together. A group can have lunch at the marina, be on a boat by two, back at the villa for a chef at eight and at a proper table by midnight without anyone spending the day in a minibus. For a group in their late twenties and up, with the budget to do things properly, Limassol is simply the right address.

Ayia Napa is the one everyone has heard of, and for good reason — it has the best nightlife on the island and it is very good at it. If the strip is genuinely the centre of the weekend, nowhere else in Cyprus comes close, and we plan plenty of weekends there. Worth knowing what you're choosing, though: through July and August it runs young and loud, and that atmosphere is the whole town rather than something you dip into. For some groups that's exactly the point. For others it's the reason they were asking about Limassol.

Paphos runs slower. It suits groups with a wider age range, or where the stag genuinely wants a good weekend rather than a big one — golf, long lunches, a boat, dinner that doesn't turn into a night out. It's also the better call when half the group is flying into Paphos airport and nobody fancies the transfer east.

Larnaca we plan in mainly for a practical reason: it's the shortest hop from the main international airport. If your group is arriving from four different European cities across a Friday afternoon, basing the first night in Larnaca and moving the next morning can save everyone two hours of driving at the worst possible time.

So, the short version. Limassol unless there's a specific reason otherwise. Ayia Napa if the strip genuinely is the point. Paphos for a slower weekend, a wider age range, or a group flying into Paphos. Larnaca when arrival logistics are the problem worth solving.
